I have loved watching my friend Tessa through her pregnancy journey. She is a working birth and post-partum doula, so she is very aware of how all of this should work. Throughout her pregnancy, she has shared how things were progressing through an ongoing Instagram story, and goodness has it been real and honest and eye-opening. I love reading what smart people have to say, and she is smart and wise and very good at explaining things. She would be a terrific person to help you down your pregnancy path.
Her pregnancy path has been hard. And yet, she has walked that path with so much grace and calm. She is a huge proponent of listening to your body and accepting that your body knows what it is doing. She is also one of the biggest cheerleaders for body positivity that I know. I heard her give a talk once on Fatphobia in the Arts and it has stuck with me. For those of us that live in larger bodies, it is so lovely to see someone loving their body with joy.
She wasn't feeling great during our session, but you would never know it. I think she is SO GORGEOUS! She looked beautiful in every gown and fabric that I put her in.
I especially loved her in this red fabric. I may have squealed a little when we got it all wrapped and arranged. She is so imperial and regal! Just for fun we tossed on a Christmas crown, but I love her just in the draping best.
I share all of this to say, YOU ARE AMAZING! You are making a tiny human in there all by yourself and that is magical. I know we are primed by society to worry over changes to our bodies and to worry that those changes are wrong somehow, but sister, you are creating an entirely new person. Your body is taking a beating, because life doesn't come easy, but I vote that we celebrate your powerful self. Take pictures. Be regal. Be so strong that people fall in your wake as you walk by. You. Are. Life.
Our maternity sessions are so easy and accepting. We have gowns in a variety of sizes and we use lots of flowy fabrics that look great on everyone. We want you to feel how beautiful and special you are! There is no shame allowed. Just grace and joy. You are making a BABY!
