Congratulations on your new baby or baby-to-be! This is such an exciting time in your life. And, I would guess, a super stressful time too. There are so many new things to figure out and it all feels like it is the most important thing ever. ARG! Why don't babies come with a manual?
Well, never fear. We've got your back on this one. Let me walk you through one of our newborn sessions and you can put that stress behind you!
What To Expect With A Newborn Photo Session
Booking Your Newborn Photo Session
Our first contact will likely be through the website or by email. We will follow up with a quick text to let you know we got it and to schedule a phone call to talk about what you are wanting. That phone call goes over our process, pricing and how to book. Once you are ready to move forward, I come to you for a design session. At that session, you get to choose from our backdrop and prop collection, and we plan out colors. At that meeting you can also see and handle the products that we offer, and you are given a full price list so you can plan how you want to display your images. We get you on the calendar and get all our paperwork signed and your retainer paid.
Your Newborn Photography Session Day
The day of the session is easy-peasy for you. Since we rent dance studio space, we have plenty of room to have everything set up for you in advance. You don't have to bring anything except yourself and the baby. Well, and food for the baby. We will have a selection of really unhealthy comfort snacks for you to munch on, but you are in charge of feeding the baby.
If you decide to do family pictures, we will start with those. I have a selection of gowns for mom to wear and dad usually comes in either a dress shirt or a solid tee shirt. We recommend black, but generally, we try to match dad to whatever color mom is wearing. When you come in the door, we will coo over baby for a minute and then send the parents off to change into their good clothes. If baby is bottle-fed, we will probably try to top them off before we get started. If breastfed, then we have mom top the baby off before going to change clothes. While parents are getting ready, we do one last diaper check and then change baby into either their first outfit or into a nice swaddle. Then we jump into the family pictures and pictures with mom and dad.
Once we have our family shots done, you can go change back into comfy clothes. We have a place for you to sit and even nap if you wish. Your job is done at this point and you can relax!
I like to do another diaper check at this point and see if baby wants another snack. A photoshoot is a lot of work for baby and they are usually hungrier than normal. We are totally okay taking lots of snack breaks. A full baby is a happy baby.
I usually move to what we call the bean bag poses at this point. The beanbag is just that- a large, flat, sturdy beanbag that we cover with fabric. This is where we do the assorted poses and the baby mugshots. Depending on how sleepy baby is, we move through several poses and up to two fabrics.
Prop poses are next! These are the babies in bowls and beds and baskets. I usually aim for at least two prop set ups. Sometimes we can get in more if baby is happy and sleepy. I have a whole selection of these for you to choose from, so we are sure to find something that you will love.
Once we finish prop shots, we are done! Whew! Your baby will probably sleep like a champ when you get home. Just another service we provide!
After Your Photo Session
After your session, I go through and cull out the very best images, and then I will come back to you for you to see them. I help you make your choices because it can be difficult. I am here to help, though. My goal is to make this as easy for you as possible. Once you have decided which images you love and how you want to display them, I do final edits on your pictures, have you approve everything and then your order is sent to the lab. Once it comes back to me, I check everything over to make sure it is perfect, and then I bring it to you. It is so fun bringing back your goodies!
So that is it in a nutshell. Easy-peasy, right?
If this sounds awesome to you and you would like more information or would like to book, you can email me at info@brownbunnyphoto.com. I would love to chat with you!
