When Should You Schedule Your Maternity Photography Session?

The best time for maternity photos is typically between 28 and 36 weeks. During this time, your baby bump is beautifully defined, but you’re usually still comfortable enough to move, change poses, and enjoy the experience.

If you’re farther along, don’t worry. We’ve photographed beautiful maternity sessions well into the final weeks of pregnancy. The only challenge is that babies occasionally decide to make an early appearance!

If you’re planning newborn portraits as well, we recommend reserving both sessions at the same time. This guarantees space on our calendar and creates a beautiful beginning to your family’s story.

What Should You Wear for Maternity Photos?

One of the biggest questions we hear is, “What should I wear for maternity photos?”

The good news is that we’ve already done much of the work for you.

Brown Bunny Photography offers a carefully curated collection of maternity gowns in a variety of colors and styles, from timeless fitted dresses to flowing fabrics perfect for dramatic fine art portraits. During your planning consultation, we’ll help you choose clothing that complements your style and photographs beautifully.

You’ll simply need to provide appropriate undergarments, especially if you’d like to create draped silk or chiffon images.

The session itself is relaxed, guided, and surprisingly fun.

You don’t need to know how to pose or worry about what to do with your hands. I’ll guide you through every pose while making small adjustments that flatter your changing body and help you feel comfortable and confident.

We’ll photograph a variety of looks, change gowns as desired, and create both classic portraits and dramatic artistic images throughout the session.

My goal is simple: to help you feel beautiful while creating artwork that celebrates this incredible season of motherhood.

What Happens After the Session?

After your maternity session, I carefully review every image and hand-select the strongest portraits for your ordering appointment.

Together we’ll view your finished gallery and choose the images you love most for heirloom preservation. I’ll help you design framed artwork, heirloom albums, or other custom pieces that fit beautifully within your home and your budget.

Once your artwork is complete, I personally inspect every piece before delivering it to you. If you’ve ordered framed artwork, I can even arrange professional installation so everything is ready to enjoy the moment it arrives.
